If appointed he would be entirely[?] under the influence of the federal lawyer at Ellsworth[?], & in giving[?] [?] he would look rather to the political sentiments[?] of the justices than to the merits[?] of the [?]

Should any corroboration of my opinion be required I do not hesitate to say that it may be procured from every republican in Ellsworth[?] whose opinion ought[?] to be of any weight.
