yet I have been advised to do it by Mr. Bridge & Mr. Davis in whose discretion I have generally found it safe to confide.
The circumstance of my having been educated a lawyer, and conversant with land matters, &c for several years, and since, Clerk of the House of Representatives may not be unimportant considerations in the mind of Mr. Lincoln should they be made known to him. And it may be of consequence that this gentleman should be immediately written to, in order to anticipate any pledges that he may otherwise be induced to make to other candidates should any open. I beg you to pardon me for troubling you upon this subject and (to - stricken) believe me to be.
