Robert Martin had 17 - A. Kincaid 1 - Robert Martin was declared duly elected.

On motion of Mr Greene, Ordered, that a message be sent to the Governor and Council informing that Branch that the Senate is duly organized by the election of John C. Talbot Esq. President and William Trafton Secretary, which message was delivered by Mr. Greene.

On motion of Mr Benson Ordered, that a special message be sent to the House of Representatives, informing that Branch of the Legislature, that the Senate is duly organized by the election of John C. Talbot Esq. President and William Trafton Secretary - which message was delivered by Mr Benson.

On motion of Mr Manning. Ordered, that a Committee, consisting of one from each County, be appointed to select the name of some suitable person for Assistant Secretary, and Messrs Manning, Ham, Strickland, Woodbury, Benson, Staples, Higgins J.R. Redman and J. Redman were appointed said Committee; who having attended to the duties assigned them reported the name of Oliver C. Guptill

On motion of Mr Manning. Ordered, that the Secretary of the Senate be directed to appoint an Assistant, agreeable to the report of the Committee on that subject and Oliver C. Guptill
