1209 A. (cont.) have never been able to satisfy myself that there were grounds for complaint in any instance that I can now recollect. In many instances I found them quite ready to say that they were fully satisfied and were happy in their condition. That would be my judgment after the inquiries I made from time to time. I can recollect one or two instances where parties have complained to me and afterwards when they became as I think more sane they have made less complaint. Q. Covering all sources of information, state what you conviction is as to the treatment of the patients there, whether they are kindly treated by the attendants? A. I do not think there has been any instance that has been brought to my attention where there has been any particular abuse. I have noticed when I have been through the wards, some that showed signs of being injured but on inquiry I found that the injury was the result of accident for which they themselves were accountable. I am know by the patients there and I think if there had been any cause for complaint they should have come to me. Q. Have you encouraged them to do that? A. I think I have.
