1215 Q. ( cont.) with the patients and get at as accurately as you could, whether they were being properly and comfortably cared for? A. I have talked with many of the patients and attendants, examined in to their conditions as well as I could. Q. You have examined with reference to seeing how they were treated and whether they were made comfortable? A. I suppose that was what I was there for and I tried to do my duty. I have made inquiries of the patients how they were treated. Q. You entered on your duties without any prejudices one way or the other? A. I had none that I know of, I had heard some rumours about the hospital, but I had formed no opinion about it. Q. Give the result of your own observation on the matter of management of the asylum. A. I have gone into the halls and looked at the cleanliness of the halls, beds and clothing of the patients and the general attention that they were receiving and the condition they were in, in more respects perhaps than I can tell here.
