1229 Testimony of Martin V. B. Chase By Mr. Baker Q. Is this paper the original written report made to the Gov. and council on the hospital treasury matter. A. Yes sir. Q. Your name appears on the original report; by whom do you say that was made? A. It does appear, written by Fred N. Dowe of Portland Q. You think Mr. Dowe was the chairman of the committee? A. really we had no chairman; Mr. Dowe was not on the hospital committee; but circumstance were such that he took part. He wrote the report and signed his own name. Q. Then the name of E. A. Thompson appears, whose writing is that? A. I should say it was Mr. Thompson's Q. Then follows your name on the report? A. Yes sir Q. Do you think Col. Dowe would have written that without your authority? A. I have a letter from him explaining that matter. Q. repeated A. Col. Dowe would not sign my name to as report unless he thought it was all right; if he did he would be very likely to do it. Q. The committee had discussed the matter
